Mohammed Must Move to the Mountain

Alpha male nerd rage chokes this game from ever progressing, since if you ever give a complement or acknowledge something, it translates into showing weakness and you have to be alpha male at all times. You can’t ever really demonstrate to people that -x- works. If you ever want to convince anyone of anything, you have to have Ph.Ds, with degrees in astrophysics and quantitative analysis, show with graphs and charts how -x- is better than -y-. And then you have to post it everywhere and anywhere multiple times, before players start to realize -x- works.

But it’s even the simple shit that I notice sometimes. You would be shocked at how many rangers I’m seeing not use Camouflage since it’s been updated. And Square-Enix has flat out told us what the updated Camouflage does.

Short of things like Hastega II and Refreshga II, the playerbase doesn’t ever really give a shit. It’s kind of sad.

I haven’t been leaving many comments lately… I’ll try and fix that.

  • Slug Shotting a Lesser Colibri from 70% health and it not turning was pretty cool, but I guess everyone with 12+ brain cells is in Korrolocka Tunnel Astral Burning or something because I can’t get a non-retarded party to save my life?

It’s like the people leveling Bard now are from a Time Loop back in 2004 or something. Singing three or four songs and then standing around doing their best Absolute Terror impressions…really productive. Sure, I could be blasting the hell out of mobs, but no I’ll sit on TP constantly and run around trying not to pull hate so I can go find another bird for the other two DDs to slowly kill. Camoflauge wears off usually pulling I’ve noticed. Not like you can stand around waiting for a bird to start flying away from you to pull it and see Chain #3 often. The one 58+ party I’ve gotten with the AF body it was pretty awesome though. It’s the one “Enhances Job Ability” piece they aren’t joking about.

Kind of not too related to what’s annoying you, but people are still stupid in general, so it sort of ties in.

Not that I get to play RNG like… ever, but…

In a standard merit situation (read: birds, ‘cuz you’re a RNG), you’re probably going to pull hate regardless of whether or not you are using camouflage because if you’re any good AT ALL you’re outdamaging every run-of-the-mill melee in your party per shot, TPing just as fast, and following up with slugwinder anyway. Also, pulling as RNG in merits is terrible, but that’s a whole other topic.

Beyond that, the recast timer on camouflage is prohibitively long in any situation outside of say… Odin or JoL (RNGs fight those, right?), not to mention that the ability has random duration on top of possibly wearing off after firing. I have only ever used this ability as a free thirty second invisible (last time I played RNG was before this update, but still).

I’ll concede that it is probably more useful at lower levels. Also, there’s no drawbacks for using it. It’s just that there really aren’t any drawbacks for not using it, either, so why bother with it. It would have been more useful if they just reduced ranged enmity like they planned, but it would make RNG so ridiculously powerful I don’t even know how to express it with words.

    ANYWAY… Back on topic.

Have you looked at BG Advanced? Every single person that asks a question is laughed out by about every poster, and finding any concrete testing data involves slogging through 10 pages of “this is bullshit you suck blah blah.” It has literally devolved into one guy going “do it this way or you suck” and everyone agreeing with him for 5 pages. Further, most of these people have either quit playing or were banned. What a great image to give to any new players. We’re such a warm and inviting community, aren’t we?

A sad state of affairs, indeed.

Erm… what’s hard about using Camouflage? I guess I leveled RNG after it was updated… When I did RNG->37, I used it as an awesome way to get back to camp from pulling right in front of sight aggro mobs. I’d put it up, stand right in front of a sight aggro mob, shoot a different mob and run back to camp. Camouflage would stay up and I’d only get the mob that I pulled! I thought that was awesome xD

Oh… less enmity? Why would a RNG want that? Isn’t the whole objective of a DD is to pull hate, hence showing how much better you are compared to other DDs in your party/alliance and die first, leaving them to clean up the mess so that you can go watch TV while you wait for a raise?

    @ep – I hate pulling. Especially when there’s a bard. It’s so utterly annoying.

@cronoserge – If I’m meriting, I do it on WAR though. Or DNC. Well, I should be, at least on DNC, but that’s neither here nor there. The times I’m on RNG is for Odin, mostly, or the occasional ZNM.

BG’s FFXI forums have become a real cesspool lately. Another post for another day though, I guess.

@ascule – Oh yes, the coveted ePenis argument. I had forgotten about that.
