Someone needs to explain this to me:
Save for the abjuration, costs 14,000 Gil on the Auction House:

Save for the abjuration, costs 1,200,000 Gil on the Auction House:

The difference in price is 1,186,000 gil. You net an extra 1DEF, 2HP, 2MP, and 1 more resistance to fire, lightning, water, and darkness.
That’s one million, one hundred eighty six thousand gil.
Honestly. Looking for an answer on this one.
On Unicorn it’s 11k for the NQ and 950k for the HQ. The NQ is a -53k loss to make. Honestly I think the pricing is
flawedretarded. That’s what undercutting each other does to the economy. The HQ is not worth that much, yet I see a lot of people wear them.
Crafters need to make a profit off the HQ or they won’t make them at all. There’s got to be some kind of incentive for them to get crafted in the first place.
Plus, then you’ll have a white border. Everyone loves white borders.
Its exactly what Chronoserge said. The HQ price is the make up for the NQ losses. The fact that crafters get away with it is because people love the epeen of a white box.
I love your blog.

I think it’s dumb. Considered getting HQ when I got the Abj. just because I was super excited–it really is a nice piece, but it really wasn’t worth the extra 1M for a few silly little stats like that ._. I agree that you should be able to make profit off HQ, but that much of a price difference…
It’s not dumb when you consider the cost of making the item several times. You have to get alchemy skill up to 103 to even have a 10% chance of HQing. Since you can’t get much higher than that (104?), a 10% chance is the best you’ll be able to manage. So assume that you then actually make a +1 once every 10 synths. You’re spending about 75k (bahamut prices for the sake of this argument) to make a 20k item, so you’re taking a 55k loss 9 times. The tenth time, you make a +1 (900k – 1.2mil). So after spending 750k on ingredients, you make a profit of 150k – 450k. If you take into account that you’re probably not going to synth an HQ one out of ten times, you may not be making any profit at all. Sure, there’s going to be people who get lucky, as that is the nature of probability, but the majority will likely spend more than they earn off the HQ sale.
That being said, the stats on the HQ are barely affecting you at all in comparison to the NQ, so the only real reason to buy the HQ (in my opinion) is to satisfy a need for white borders
As logical and sensible as that is, Cronoserge, it still blows my mind anyone would pay that much gil for a whitebox, especially on a piece of equipment that you shouldn’t really full time anyway.
You buy the wyrmal legs for the +movement speed first and foremost, which stays the same between the NQ and HQ.
I suppose some would “kill” for their e-peen. Lol.
Nothing but ePeen and the rarity of the abjuration. If you get a pair, that’s likely to be the only pair you ever get and they’re highly desired. Our prices on them aren’t too bad (I don’t and prolly won’t own them) and a friend who has more gil than sense has a cursed -1 pair waiting for his abjuration. /shrug, each to their own.
I should note, Kirin doesn’t drop cuisses for us, they don’t actually exist for our shell.
I have the Blood ones, as you may have seen. Total epeen, no practical reason at all beyond white box.
That being said I did not buy them from the AH. I had a friend craft all the pieces and the cost was very low to get it HQ’d. No AH involved.
